5 Fun Family Outings That Won’t Cost A DimeKids love to go on fun family outings, but some things like amusement parks have become incredibly expensive for a family to do. Don't worry, though. There are still cheap fun family outings, that your kids will enjoy and that won't cost you a dime. Here are a few ideas to get you started.

1.) A Day In The Park.

Most towns and cities have wonderful public parks available for you to use, and they're completely free. Check out the parks in your area and see what your options are. One of the easiest cheap family outings is to plan an entire day at the park, taking advantage of the different things they have to offer. There may be hiking or biking trails, paddle boats or row boats, open green spaces for playing frisbee or a ball game, or a beach for playing in the water. Pack a picnic, or you may even be able to grill burgers if they have barbecue grills. Remember the sunscreen, too!

2.) Visit The Library.

Visiting the library will help get your kids interested in reading, which is an important life skill that will help their education, too. Libraries usually have sections with books and activities appropriate for different age groups. Check the event calendar, and you can find out if they have story time for kids, or other children's activities. You can also let your kids check out books, music, or movies that they select, which gives them some responsibility and control, along with something they will enjoy.

3.) Walk Through A Plant Nursery.

A nursery is full of different colors, shapes, and patterns. If your kids are very young, this can be a good way to talk about colors with them. They can feel the leaves, and smell the flowers. Older children will want to know more about the plants themselves. One of these cheap family outings can even lead to a home science project, you can start for almost nothing. Pick up a packet of seeds at the nursery. Let your children plant them at home, and watch their seedlings grow.

4.) Take A Hike.

It is wonderful to take children out in nature, and a hiking trail is an excellent opportunity to do that as a family. Kids can run around, burn off some energy, and get dirty. It can be an educational outing, as you talk about the different plants and animals you see along the way. Children enjoy watching birds, smelling flowers, and examining bugs. These cheap fun family outings pique their curiosity, and you may get a lot of questions like "Why is the lizard doing that?" If you have a smart phone, you may be able to find an answer on the spot, and otherwise you can do it when you get home. For younger kids, choose a trail that is fairly short and level, as they may tire out quickly.

5.) Visit A Museum.

Many cities have museums that are fascinating for children. Anything that involves dinosaurs, sharks, or Egyptian mummies is sure to be a hit with the kids.  Some science museums have hands-on experiments and exhibits geared especially for children. Museum visits can be fun family outings, and educational too. Most museums do have an entry fee, but if you check their website, there are often certain days of the week or month when they open up for free.
