Surprisingly, many people have to deal with this issue regularly, and while there is no particular cure for gas and bloating, there are many home remedies and over-the-counter treatments that can help offer some relief.

There are different types of abdominal pain, and before you start treating yourself at home, you should see a doctor to make sure that it isn't something more serious than just gas. Once you're sure that there are no internal problems causing the pain aside from some air bubbles and indigestion, you can try a few of these remedies on your own.

Heat For Pain:

The usual advice is to use cold for swelling and heat for pain, and while the heat won't rid you of the gas, it will certainly help to ease some of the pain. Much like the hot water bottle on the belly or back during menstrual cramps, applying heat to your abdomen can also ease pain due to gas.

If you find it difficult to sit with a hot water bottle on your stomach or lower back, you can opt for a hot bath instead. Light some soothing scented candles for an added punch of serenity, and try to relax. Sometimes relaxing your muscles in the heat can help the gas to naturally escape your body.

Natural Herbs:

After a soak in the tub, if you find that the severe abdominal pain gas is still present, there are a number of natural herbs that are known to provide some help. One in particular is ginger, which is found in many tummy taming recipes. When you were younger, you probably remember your mother giving you flat ginger ale to calm a sore stomach. This method may not work as well today because many soda brands don't use real ginger, but if you grate ginger into a mug of boiled hot water, along with two teaspoons of honey, you can reap the same benefits.

Chamomile, mint, and cinnamon tea can have the same effect on the pain felt from a gassy belly. You can buy most of these types of tea at your local grocer, or make your own using simple spices from your kitchen cupboard. Just be sure that if you do steep your own tea, you don't swallow all of the herbs you added, as this could upset your stomach further.

Probiotics Use:

Okay, so you have probably seen all of those yogurt commercials on television claiming to help regulate your digestion. The active cultures in the yogurt help to make you regular, which can be a great help if you're feeling gassy. While yogurt is the best known probiotic in your grocery store, you might be surprised to learn that pickles, buttermilk, sauerkraut, and Korean kimchi can also come in handy in this area.

Over-the-Counter Medication:

Finally, if the above natural pain relievers don't help you get rid of that severe abdominal pain gas, you can also choose from a number of over-the-counter medications. Your pharmacist may be able to point you in the best direction for your particular symptoms, or you can read the back of boxes for a better idea on what each treatment helps with.
