When you have to eat gluten free, either because you have Celiac disease or because you choose to follow a gluten free diet, you may feel as if fast food is forever off the charts. Fortunately, you can arm yourself with a comprehensive gluten free fast food list and find out that there are actually quite a few things that you can eat. Do remember, however, that fast food isn't good for you, so you should keep it to a minimum anyway, whether you're gluten free or not!
Gluten Free Fast Food List Chains:
First of all, there are a number of fast food chains that have now created a 'GF' (gluten free) menu. This doesn't mean that you can eat everything there, but rather that they have meals on their menu that you can choose. The chains that offer such meals are:
- Burger King
- Olive Garden
- Pei Wei
As you can see, this gives you quite a wide variety of cuisines to choose from as well, so you're not stuck to eating the same fast food all the time.
How To Eat Gluten Free In A Fast Food Restaurant:
Technically, almost every fast food restaurant can give you a gluten free meal, so long as you customize whatever it is you're eating. For instance, even Kentucky Fried Chicken has salads on their menu, which you can eat. You're also generally safe to eat fries in fast food restaurants. The exception is McDonald's. They do not proclaim to offer gluten free fries, and some people have said that they have actually had a reaction to them. As such, this is one you can try at your own peril. If you insist on having a burger, bring your own buns and ask for your burger without a bun in the store (this does mean you will have to put all the other ingredients, like the salad, meat slice, and sauce, on your bun yourself). Avoid the chicken burgers, however, as those are usually coated. This means that Kentucky Fried Chicken is almost completely out of the question.
Gluten Free Fast Food List – The Best Place To Go:
So which is the very best fast food joint to visit if you want to eat gluten free but don't solely want salad? Surprisingly enough, it is Chipotle. Virtually everything that is on their menu is gluten free! The thing is that you have to make sure that, instead of ordering your meal in a flour tortilla, you ask for it in a bowl. It will still be nicely presented and if you bring a gluten free tortilla, you will really have the whole Chipotle experience. Because they offer the bowls, it is a much better choice than going to Burger King and asking from something like the Double Whopper without buns, and ending up with a box of mess.
Going gluten free is restrictive, but it doesn't mean there is nothing left for you. As you can see, even fast food isn't necessarily off the menu. Just prepare yourself before you go, and you should be fine.
